Se cree que cuando el Rey Varman mudó su capital a Chamba, no había agua allí. Los sacerdotes y otros astrónomos religiosos predecieron agua, sólo si se entierrasen al hijo vivo del rey. Al escuchar esto la reina sustituyó su hijo con lo de su criada/enfermera. En el momento de llenar el hoyo, empezó a surgir agua. Pero la enfermera perdió a su hijo. El templo está dedicado a aquella madre quien hizo el sacrificio de su hijo para el bienestar del público del rey.
