Este fuerte fue construido por la familia Shilahar en el 10º o 11º Siglo AD. Tiene una altura de casi 1025 pies y tiene una área de 1824 metros cuadrados. Anteriormente nombrado como Aashwalayangad, era luego nombrado como Aaswalgad. Está a 12 kms desde la ciudad Satara. Después de conquistarlo de los Mughals, Shivaji rogó al Santo Samarth Ramdas que venga y que viva allí. Durante este período mucha gente venía para conseguir la bendición del santo y por eso su nombre Sajjan (una persona noble).
