Pavanar está situado a 3-km desde Sewagram, donde hay un ashram de Acharya Vinoba Bhave. Él era el discípulo del Mahatma Gandhi e inició el Bhudaan, que significa el movimiento de donación de tierra. Iba a pie por toda la India persuadiendo a los ricos terratenientes a donar su tierra a los trabajadores pobres sin tierra.
