Keylong es la sede del distrito de Lahaul y Spiti. Situada a una altitud de 3156 metros Keylong es el centro principal en la ruta de comercio entre los pasos Rohatang y Baralacha arriba el Río Bhaga. Es un oasis en este desierto frío. Siendo el más comercializado sitio además tiene muchas facilidades y un mercado muy bueno. El Monasterio Khardong está a 4 km desde aquí y contiene tambores de oración que parecen como barriles, pinturas, armas ancianas, instrumentos musicales y una estatua de tamaño natural del Señor Buda. Hay tres Monasterios en el radio de unos pocos kilómetros; Tayul, Khardong y Shashur que también merecen una visita.
