No muy lejos desde Triplicane, en Mylapore, hay un templo del 8 siglo Pallava dedicado al Señor Shiva. La torre ‘Gopuram’ (torre) del templo es una característica del estilo de arquitectura dravidiano y además tiene bonitas esculturas. También en el patio debajo del viejo árbol Punnai hay un pequeño sitio sagrado representando a la Diosa Parvathi en la forma de un Pavo real rezando al Señor Shiva. Es de esta leyenda que Mylapore derivó su nombre -''''myil'''' significando pavo real y ''''oor'''' significando pueblo.
