Templo Chandi Devi

Description:
Este templo está a 6 km. desde Haridwar arriba la cima de una colina llamada el Neel Parvat, al otro lado del río Ganga. Según leyenda Chanda-Munda el jefe del ejército de los demonios Shumbh-Nishumbh fue matado por la Diosa Chandi y por eso el nombre Chandi Devi. También se dice que Adi Shankaracharya estableció la original estatua de Chandi en el siglo 8 AD. El Rey de Cachemira, Suchat Singh, construyó el templo en 1929 AD. Chandi Devi está a unos tres kms. desde Chandi Ghat. El Templo Chandi Devi hoy día tiene acceso por un cable también, con el nombre de Chandi Devi Udankhatola, que empieza desde el Templo Gauri Shankar. La longitud del cable es de 740 m y altura de 208 m. Hay una selva densa por otro lado de la colina habitada por elefantes y otros animales salvajes.
