Templo Virupaksha

Description:
El templo Virupaksha del siglo 15 está situado en el área del Hampi Bazaar. Es uno de los más antiguos monumentos del pueblo. La cima del templo tiene la altura de casi 50 m. desde el suelo y el templo principal está dedicado a Virupaksha, una forma de Señor Shiva.
Al Virupaksha también se llama Pampapati. Mientras la construcción pertenece al período Vijayanagar de más tarde, hay muchos sitios sagrados dentro del templo que son más antiguos. Al extremo este, hay un gran Nandi de piedra; por el lado sur está la grande estatua de Ganesha. Parece que la moda era de tallar estatuas hechas de grandes piedras únicas en Hampi, por que además hay un imagen de Narasimha (6.7 m alto), la encarnación de mitad-león y mitad –hombre del Dios y por lo tanto un gran linga. Este símbolo fálico ya tiene su base en agua.
