Vellore está a 64 km desde Kanchipuram. Está famoso por su puerto y el templo Jalakandeeswarar dentro del fuerte. Este histórico fuerte de Vellore fue construido en el siglo 16 y se lo considera ser un perfecto espécimen de la arquitectura militar. El fuerte está rodeado por un foso y dentro del fuerte está el templo Jalakanteshwara, que tiene algunas bonitas esculturas en el techo y algunos columnas y monolitos detalladamente talladas. El Tigre de Mysore, Tipu Sultan, controlaba al fuerte por algunos años antes de ser derrotado.
