Fuerte Uparkot

Description:
Este es el mismo fuerte de la cual la ciudad deriva su nombre. Tenía mucha fama en las épocas anteriores por ser virtualmente inaccesible, el Uparkot o Fuerte Superior está rodeado por una murallas que está, en algunos sitios, más de 20m alto. Una entrada muy decorada nos lleva a las ruinas. Una mezquita todavía se preserva en un buen estado. Un raro cañón llamado el Nilam Toph fue adquirido por el Nawab de Diu que se puede ver aquí.
Además del magnífico fuerte, el sito tiene otros sitios para visitar como los dos pozos de escaleras, Jama Masjid y las cuevas budistas. Se dice que el fuerte estaba sitiado por 12 años. En total, estaba sitiado por 16 veces. También se dice que el fuerte fue abandonado desde el siglo 7 hasta el 10 y cuando fue redescubierto, estaba completamente lleno de vegetación.
