El templo de Swami Nelliappar y Sri Kanthimathi Ambal en Tirunelveli (a unos 83-km desde Kanyakumari) remontan al menos al siglo séptimo. Sambandar ha cantado de ellos y Ninrasir Neumaran el Pandya se dice que emprendió la construcción de las columnas musicales en un Mandapa en este templo. Originalmente habían dos templos uno al lado del otro, dedicados al Señor Nelliappar y la Diosa Kanthimathi. Un Mandapa, la “cadena” Mandapa, construido en 1647, lo vinculaba. La más vieja inscripción pertenece al medio del décimo siglo.
