Darjeeling tiene el té famoso mundialmente. El té exótico producido aquí se conoce como el champán de tes. Hay alrededor de 86 fincas de té en Darjeeling que produce 10 millón kg. de té anualmente. La historia de té de Darjeeling empezó hace 160 años cuando un cirujano civil, Dr. Campbell plantó unas pocas semillas en su jardín a una altitud de 7,000 pies. El terreno y el clima siendo conductivo para crecer té, pronto las fincas de té eran populares y más tarde eran ya la principal fuente de ingreso de Darjeeling. Uno puede visitar una finca de té y ver todos los pasos de hacer té, desde cortar hojas hasta procesarlas y además se puede sobrar el té y comprarlo.
