El primero de este tipo en la India, el Instituto de Alpinismo Tenzing Norgay es un centro de entrenamiento para los alpinistas. El instituto fue establecido para conmemorar el primer aniversario de la primera conquista de Monte Everest en 1953 por Tenzing Norgay, un Sherpa de Darjeeling, y Sir Edmund Hillary. Fue establecido con la meta de impartir las destrezas que se requiere a todos los aficionados para hacer andinismo. Tenzing sí mismo era uno de los miembros fundadores y por lo tanto el Director de Campo del Instituto. Al lado del instituto está el Padmaja Naidu o el zoo del pueblo. El zoo tiene una espléndida colección de algunas raras especies como el Yak, leopardo de nieve, tigre siberiano, oso negro himalayano, panda rojo, zorro tibetano y el faisán himalayano entre otras. Un parquet zoológico con alta altitud, es también un centro de cría para los leopardos de nieve y pandas rojos.
