El pueblo de al Tanur era uno de de los asentamientos tempranos de los portugueses. Se cree que St. Francis Xavier visitó este sitio en el 1546. Situado a 8 km desde Tirur, es un importante centro de pescar. La vía ferrocarril Mangalore-Madras pasa por este pueblo. El templo Keraladheeswarapuram dedicado al Señor Vishnu, que se cuenta entre uno de los más antiguos templos de Kerala, está a 3 km sur del pueblo Tanur. Keraladheeswarapuram es también un asentamiento de los tejedores.
