Fuerte St. Angelo

Description:
Uno de los importantes hitos del pueblo de Kannur, el Fuerte St. Angelo, también tiene importancia histórica relacionada al estado. Era construido en el principio del siglo 16 por el primer Vicerey portugués, Don Francisco de Almeida. Construido en 1505 A.D. era capturado por los holandeses en el siglo 17 quienes por su parte lo vendieron a la realeza de Kannur, el Arakkal Ali Raja en el siglo 18. permaneció a la realeza Kannur hasta Ia llegada de los ingleses. Los ingleses no sólo renovaron la estructura pero además hicieron al fuerte su base en la región de Malabar.
Hoy no queda mucho de su gloría pasado además de otros cañones y barracones. Se puede ver también las ruinas de un capillo en el fuerte. El fuerte, hoy, es un monumento protegido y ya que encara al mar, ofrece una vista espectacular del Mar Árabe desde arriba.
