A unos 5 kms desde Trichy está la ciudad sagrada de Srirangam que tiene gran renombre por sus templos. El Templo Sri Ranganathaswamy está en la Isla Sri Rangam, en el medio del Río Cauvery. Este templo fue construido por varias dinastías incluyendo los Cheras, Pandyas, Cholas, Hoysalas y el Emperio Vijayanagar entre los siglos 13 y 18. El templo está dedicado al Señor Vishnu y tiene siete paredes concéntricas y 22 Gopurams y tiene una orientación norte al sur. Además tiene mucha fama como un centro para la filosofía religiosa y aprendizaje.
Situado a unos 2-km este de Srirangam, hay este bonito Templo Jambukeswara que está dedicado al Señor Shiva. Está nombrado por un elefante ya que la leyenda dice que un elefante verenaría al Señor aquí, diariamente. Instalado bajo un anciano árbol Jambu, el lingam está parcialmente sumergido por agua y quiere representar al Dios encarnado como Agua. La arquitectura de este templo es excelente y mejor que la de la Isla Sri Rangam.
