El Fuerte Memorial Panchalankurichi & Kattabomman

Description:
Panchalankurichi es un pequeño pero histórico pueblo a unos 70km desde Tirunelveli y 18 km desde Tuticorin. De allí el gran guerrero Katta Bomman popularmente conocido como 'Veerapandiya Kattabomman' lanzó su lucha contra el reino de los ingleses en el siglo 17 A.D. El Gobierno de Tamil Nadu construyó el actual fuerte memorial en 1974. La Sala memorial, tiene bonitas pinturas en las paredes que representan las hazañas heroicas de este hombre, que ofrece una buena visión en la historia del período. El Templo Sri Devi Jakkammal, la tradicional Diosa de Kattabomman, está situado cerca del fuerte. Un cementerio de los soldados ingleses también está cerca del fuerte. El Archaeological Survey of India protege a los restos del antiguo fuerte. En Kayatar, cerca de Tirunelveli el sitio donde él fue ahorcado, hay otro memorial para Kattabomman.
