Nilambur tiene mucha fama por sus plantaciones de teca y más por ser la más antigua plantación de teca en el mundo, el Connolly''s Plot. El plot (campo) está nombrado por H.V. Conolly, el District Collector de Malabar en aquel entonces, quien es el responsable de haber establecido las plantaciones de teca en toda el área de Nilambur.
A casi cuatro kms desde Nilambur al lado de la calle Nilambur-Gudallur está el primer Museo de Teca en el mundo y el centro de Kerala Forest Research Institute. El Museo, establecido en un edificio de dos pisos, exhibe artículos y detalles de valor histórico, estético y científico.
