Hijli es un anciano puerto de Midnapur, enriquecido por la historia musulmana e inglesa. Job Charnock, el fundador del asentamiento de los ingleses en Calcutta, derrotó a las fuerzas locales aquí en 1687, sembrando la primera semilla del control colonial de los ingleses en la India. Está situado en la confluencia de los ríos Rasulpur y Hooghly, y por eso se tiene que ir por barco desde Dariapur. Hijli tiene la Masnad-I-Ala-Masjid, que era construida alrededor de 1648-49.
