Ubicado a la otra orilla de Brahmaputra solo 32 km desde Guwahati Hajo es el punto de reunión de tres religiones – el hinduismo, el Islam y el budismo. Tiene gran número de templos de la fe musulmana, budista e hindú. El famoso Templo Haigrib Madhab según la creencia contiene una reliquia del Buda.
La mezquita del siglo 12 situado arriba la colina está referido como Poa Mecca i.e. un cuarto del sagrado Mecca ya que tiene un cuarto de la santidad de Mecca. El sitio Madan Kamdev arqueológico con esculturas eróticas tiene templos que remontan a los siglos 10 -12. Kamrup- el nombre anciano de Assam- ha derivado su nombre de la leyenda que el Dios de Amor Kama o Madan, después de haber quemado a cenizas por un Shiva enfadado, se renació allí. Una esuela cree que Madan renació y se reunió con Rati en esta pequeña colina.
