Description:
El pueblo costal de Gokarna es un famoso centro de peregrinaje y también un centro de aprendizaje del sánscrito, a unos 56 kms desde Karwar. Tiene mucha fama por el Templo Mahabaleswar con el 'Atmalinga' (un reverado Shiva lingam) dedicado al Señor Shiva. Hay un enorme carro, que se lleva en una procesión el día de cumpleaños de Shiva en febrero. El Tambraparni Teertha (Río) de aquí se lo considera sagrado para hacer obsequias para los difuntos.
Gokarna también tiene fama por sus bonitas playas aisladas como Kutle, Om, Luna media, Paraíso etc. que igualan a las playas de Goa en su belleza.
