La aglomeración urbana llamada English Bazaar comprende del pueblo de Malda y el English Bazaar. Se estableció un asentamiento extranjero en 1680. Malda llegó a ser conocido como el Ingraj Bazaar o el English Market cuando los holandeses, franceses y el East India Company empezó comercializar aquí.
