Alrededor de 200 kms norte de Khajuraho en la frontera de Uttar Pradesh está Chitrakoot, un sagrado sitio para los hindúes. Se cree que era en este sitio el Señor Dattatraya nació como una encarnación de la trinidad de los hindúes, el Señor Brahma, Vishnu y Mahesh. La otra importancia de este es que Ram, Sita y Lakshman vivieron por 11 años de su exilio en este mismo sitio. El Ram Ghat, el Sita Kund y muchos tales sitios religiosos están asociados con la estancia del Señor Ram aquí. Estos sitios han sido declarado como puntos sagrados y muchos devotos vienen aquí.
