Chinsurah o Chunchura

Description:
Chunchura fue un asentamiento de los holandeses desde 1656 hasta 1825. Este histórico pueblo es la sede del distrito de Hooghly. Luego fue intercambiado por los holandeses por la isla indonesia de Sumatra controlada por los ingleses en 1825. El Fuerte Gustavus, a iglesia, tres barracones y muchas antiguas tumbas que son testimonios a los días anteriores. La Iglesia Octagonal holandés construida en 1768 es una atracción principal. Un poco al oeste de la Iglesia hay un cementerio holandés. Otro sitio importante es el Bandemataram House en Joraghat, que era la residencia del gran novelista y poeta bengali, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. Fue aquí que se compuso la canción nacional, Bandemataram.
El famoso Imambara en Hooghly fue establecido por Hazi Mohammad Mohsin en 1836. La puerta tiene altos minaretes, las paredes están decoradas con textos del Corán y el interior tiene ricos tallados y diseños incrustados de mármol. El reloj del sol en el jardín es de interés para muchos visitantes, y el 35-m. alta torre del reloj ofrece una magnífica vista.
